What Is A Warm Roof
A warm roof is a roof designed to maintain the heat in a conservatory, keeping it closer to the temperature of the home. It features a layer of insulation near the top of the roof, between the rafters and the weatherproof membrane. With insulation on the top of the roof, the heat below has less space to escape through and the timber rafters underneath are kept warm, hence the name “warm roof”.
Warm Roof vs Cold Roof
Because warm roofs have a layer of insulation above the rafters, they’re more effective at trapping heat than a cold roof. The improved energy performance will make your space more comfortable through the colder months, and will be more cost-effective in the long run.
With a cold roof, the insulation is placed between the roof’s joists, making the roof less energy-efficient, and liable to conduct the cold outside into the room via thermal bridging. Though they may be easier to install, a cold roof will provide poorer energy performance than a warm roof, costing you more to keep your spaces warm.
